Our latest Development and Updates.

It has been a while since our last post and there is an explanation for that: our blog administrator is away in vacation, the everyday stress thinking about the well being of my family and friends in Haiti, focusing on organizing more events and getting ready for NY Fashion week.

Before talking about Fashion week, let's chat about our first event to raise money to help my homeland "Haiti". The event went very well, out of 35 confirmed 20 showed up and we were very happy with our little crowd. We collected $597.00 plus another additional $20 the next day. So far we order 6 tents and 4 sleeping bags and would like to be able to order 6 more tents and 8 more sleeping bags. They need them badly, the raining season in Haiti is started and we are trying our best to find some help or an organization to donate them if possible.

One of my beautiful model Marija, have  a dear friend who owns a truck company, he donated a trailer to make it easy for me to stock the items and will be willing to drive it down to Florida to be shipped to Haiti. The trailer is located in Jersey City for those who would like to donate and live int he neighborhood of NJ. I feel very lucky and want to  say thanks to Marija and her friend. Also Marija is collecting items from friends and family as well, just to give me a hand, show her support in the effort.
Pauline, my dear friend donated a case of 64 emergency water packet, Artists, designers in my building donated can of foods and we also received some clothes.
Feel very lucky to have great people like them in my life.

Just to let everyone know there is a great hip boutique located in the border of East Williamsburg/Bushwick called Better Than Jam Handmade Co-Op, the owner's name is Karin Persan, the most beautiful and awesome person I ever met. Anyway to make a long story short, the concept beyond the store is to give local designers a place where they can call their own.  No competition there, each designer pieces are unique and to die for. Prices range from $40.00 to 300.00 per items. There will be monthly event, workshop, sewing classes (by me and other designers) and more. You will find some of my designs there as well. You definitely need to check it out. This is the website: http://www.betterthanjamnyc.xbuild.com
Pictures and TV interview will upload later.

NY FASHION WEEK.
A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by the Nolcha Fashion Group and offered the opportunity to participate this year in Nolcha Independent Designers presentation. So I have been working like crazy, slept 4 nights in a row in my studio on top of my cutting table, working 19 hours a day, sleep only 3 to 4 hours a day but still going and don't want to give up because I want my participation in Fashion week to mean something, I want to use it for a cause close to my heart. I decided to use/donate 50% of any order I will get to build an art/design school in Haiti to help the youth, an opportunity to express themselves and use their talents.  Since Art is practically made with the intention of stimulating thoughts and emotions, a vehicle for the expression or communication of ideas, a means for exploring and appreciating, an art school at home in my mother home town will mean a lot and will help a whole lot.
It is going to be  a very long process. It means of course working harder so I can make more sells and create more events. After what my country, family, friends have been through and most of all the young ones this will be a great opportunity more than ever to do something positive and offer an helping hand. As I said in my interviews " it is a way to pay back and to offer to those who don't have anything, support and hope".
I am planning to be in Haiti by the end of March hopefully, will be traveling with some friends some of them from Haiti who either lost family members, their houses or just want to go and help.

If you know of any organizations would like to help and support please share.

We also still in need of those items if you can help:  Disinfectants; Gauze and Dressings; Tape; Antibiotic Ointment (Neosporin); Analgesics (Tylenol, Aspirin, Advil, Aleve); Sinus Medications; Diapers; Baby Bottles; Adhesive Bandages (Band-Aids); Antibacterial solutions (Peroxide); Hand Sanitizers; Masks; Sterile Gloves; Wraps; Rolled Bandages; Baby Formula; Infant Re-hydration (Pedialyte); and Personal Care Items (Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Soaps, Feminine Hygiene Supplies, etc.)

Thanks to all of you for all your support and kind words for the past few weeks. Thank you.
